Supporting Survivors During the SNAP Benefit Pause

Supporting Survivors During the SNAP Benefit Pause

At Haven Theory, we talk a lot about creating comfort for ourselves while giving comfort to others. This month, that mission feels especially important. The pause in SNAP benefits is creating an immediate strain for families who already struggle with food insecurity, and survivors of domestic abuse are some of the most affected.

For a survivor, food is not just food. It is safety. It is the ability to leave a dangerous situation and know that they and their children will be able to eat. When support like SNAP stops, even for a short period, it can push people into heartbreaking choices and make the path to safety even harder.

Survivors who are starting over are already carrying a lot on their shoulders. Many are finding new housing, taking care of their kids, handling legal steps, and trying to heal at the same time. Losing access to food support during that process creates stress that no one should have to manage alone.

If you are in a place to give, this is a moment when your generosity goes a long way. Food banks and domestic violence resource centers are stepping up to fill the gap, and they need help to keep doing it. Even a small donation can give someone stability during one of the most vulnerable moments of their life.

Haven Theory was built on the belief that we can take care of ourselves while also taking care of others. This season, as we find our own small comforts, let’s extend that same care to survivors who deserve safety, nourishment, and hope.

With love,
Jill
